Story behind the song
The song "Recession Blues" was written in about 15 minutes. Like so many people, I'm quite frustrated with the way things are going with our government. I don't have to explain it, you know what I mean. I wrote this after receiving a medical bill that I felt was absolutely outrageous. It was amazing how little my health insurance covered, and how much I had to fork out on my own. One thing I've been saying for a long time is that the government sure makes it hard to live anymore. The basic necessities of living have become unafordable, and people are working harder for nothing. That thought entered my head once again, and this song suddenly started coming into my head over the next 15 minutes. I rushed home to record a quick demo, and over the next month I recorded this song.

Lyrics

Got the bill in the mail
Tore it up, threw it on the floor
Then I watched as my health failed
I can't afford to live anymore

Turned the TV on today
It was more than I could take
Greed and violence run array
God damn the U.S.A.

Makes me ashamed to be an American
Makes me ashamed to have such faith
Makes me ashamed to be an American
Where I can't afford to live anymore

I often have to choose
Between going to work and buying food
The price of fuel fluctuates
And takes a bite out of my plate

Makes me ashamed to be an American
Makes me ashamed to have such faith
Makes me ashamed to be an American
Where I can't afford to live anymore
